Globally, over 3 billion people live on less than $2.50 a day. One of the leading causes of poverty is high unemployment, causing many people to turn to homegrown businesses to make ends meet.  Although the capital requirements are relatively small, extremely high interest rates on business loans prohibit profitability for these cottage industries.  This traps fledgling entrepreneurs in the cycle of poverty.  A lack of basic business education keeps them from seeing other options.

But what if poor entrepreneurs could get financial support through small loans at reasonable rates?  What if they could get ethical, proven business training?  This is how HPUMC Community Loans Program helps.  Working in the Philippines, Malawi, The Dominican Republic, Haiti and Mexico, we enable people to start their own businesses.   They receive entrepreneurial training, small loans and enrichment programs that teach them to save money, improve literacy and health so they can sustain and expand their businesses.

Learn how HPUMC leads pioneering efforts with the United Methodist Church to share God’s love through microfinance.
